UNISON Welcomes Bottle Ban, UK
Main Category: Water - Air Quality / AgricultureArticle Date: 10 Mar 2008 - 12:00 PDT
Commenting on the news that bottled water is to be slashed from Whitehall meetings, Dave Prentis, general Secretary of UNISON, the UK's largest public service union, said:
"I am delighted that bottled water is off the agenda and tap water will now be served at Government meetings in Whitehall. At the beginning of last year UNISON called on the Government to ban bottled water in Parliament and the sooner this happens the better.
"Turning on the tap is a greener and much cheaper way of staying hydrated and healthy at work. UNISON's Water@Work campaign aims to encourage more employers to provide staff with easy access to mains fed water. By taking a lead in this way the Government will drive home an important message - bottled water is no better than water from the tap, and it doesn't cost the earth.
"UNISON is campaigning to improve the general level of accessibility to mains drinking water in all public places, including bus and railway stations, museums, galleries and conference centres."
