Amerinet Inc., a leading national health care group purchasing organization, announced a new generic pharmaceuticals program designed to reduce its members spend while maintaining a competitive portfolio of direct agreements with generic and branded pharmaceutical manufacturers.

With the rising costs of healthcare, this new program will provide additional value on a competitive formulary of non-injectable pharmaceutical products to all acute care Amerinet members who elect to participate in the program.

Recognizing the change in the marketplace where the emergence of generic sourcing programs have increased in importance for providers, suppliers, and distributors, Amerinet has contracted with Cardinal Health to offer a new competitive Generic Sourcing Program for Amerinet members. Additionally, Amerinet Choice, Amerinet's private label line of injectable products, is a key component of this new program.

"Our goal is to continue to develop novel programs beyond the traditional GPO strategy that create additional value to our members," explained Allen Dunehew, chief contracting officer for Amerinet. "This new strategy is a testimony to our commitment to develop programs for our healthcare providers that will help them continue to provide quality patient care by maximizing savings and improving their bottom line through a program that provides full transparency."

According to Gary Freeman, vice president of Pharmacy for Amerinet, "Cardinal Health's willingness to work with Amerinet to become the first wholesaler awarded in this new program shows their commitment to our providers."

Matt Erick, senior vice president of Generics Market Development for Cardinal Health said, "We are pleased to be partnering with Amerinet and its hospital members, to drive efficiency into the generic supply chain while providing them with the high quality generic pharmaceuticals for their patients."
