The National Federation of Independent Business on Wednesday will launch a national campaign to lobby lawmakers to consider the interests of small businesses when discussing comprehensive health care proposals, CongressDaily reports. As part of the campaign, NFIB will ask congressional and presidential candidates to sign a petition to promise that they will seek to reduce health care costs. In addition, NFIB will host health care forums nationwide and sponsor research projects that examine how businesses respond to health care proposals. NFIB seeks "equal treatment" for small businesses in the tax code and other areas because many purchase health insurance in the individual market, where premiums are not deductible. According to the NFIB, small businesses on average pay 18% more than large businesses for equal levels of health insurance (Johnson, CongressDaily, 3/12).
