ASHP Joins Effort To Build Standardize Performance Measure Data Collection

ASHP contributed its expertise to help The Joint Commission (TJC) develop a white paper that outlines how to create a uniform, national system to collect and share data for performance measures.
TJC's paper, "Health Care at the Crossroads: Development of a National Performance Measurement Data Strategy," emphasizes the need for healthcare professionals and others to build a standard "data infrastructure" to improve the safety and quality of healthcare. The paper warns that current data collection efforts are isolated from one another. The inability to share data between systems hinders opportunities to broadly assess the public's health, the paper says. ASHP was part of a roundtable of a broad range of heath-care related representatives that developed the paper.
Goals detailed in the paper closely align with ASHP's enhanced advocacy initiative . The Society has voiced its concern to agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and urged that regulations be put into place that would standardize medication-related technology systems as a method to lower adverse drug events in patients. ASHP also works with government agencies and quality organizations to improve and standardize quality and performance measures.
