Report Includes Chartbook Designed To Identify Issues Behind Racial Health Disparities
Main Category: Public HealthArticle Date: 18 Mar 2008 - 5:00 PDT
"Racial and Ethnic Disparities in U.S. Health Care: A Chartbook," Commonwealth Fund: The report, led by Holly Mead of George Washington University, uses 75 charts and analyses to examine the causes of racial disparities in health care. According to the report, previous research has shown that minorities have poorer health, limited access to care and are more likely to be uninsured than other U.S. residents, in part because of income, education and insurance coverage. The chartbook is designed as an "easily accessible resource" to help policymakers, researchers and others "understand disparities in their communities and to formulate solutions," the report states. The chartbook also "incorporates an evolving understanding of the nature and etiology of disparities" and addresses other racial health disparity issues, according to the report (Mead et al., "Racial and Ethnic Disparities in U.S. Health Care: A Chartbook," Commonwealth Fund, 3/13).
