First-time author Tawana Jackson's debut, Stretched But Not Broken ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-60477-640-9), is a compelling, emotional, and uplifting read about one woman overcoming overwhelming obstacles. It chronicles the story of Mia Hall who, after being raped at five years old and emotionally abandoned by a loving but depressed mother, grows into a compliant woman who enables the bipolar and controlling abuses of her older sister, Karen, and her stepfather, Bruce. Through a life of kept secrets, silence in the face of abusive oppression, and a broken romance, Mia is driven to attempt suicide. But when Mia's friend, Julie, tells her about the love of God and how much He has in store for her life and future, she must then make a decision to let go of her past and pursue a bright and loving future with a Savior who proves to be the only answer to her life of fear, anguish, and hopelessness.

As the author's first foray into the literary genre, Stretched But Not Broken represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Jackson's heady appetite for Christian fiction novels led her to read many of them over the years, but one thing she discovered was that few of them brought out raw emotion and self-conviction such as hers has.

Says Jackson, "This book speaks to those who have suffered mental and physical abuse, as well as, those who have been imprisoned by drug addiction and mental illness. I have personally lived every aspect of this novel, from being an abused child to [possessing the sexual morality that corrupts a person's body. Everything I write about comes from experience as well as God-given creativity."

Xulon Press, a part of Salem Communications Corporation, is the world's largest Christian publisher, with more than 5,000 titles published to date. Retailers may order Stretched But Not Broken through Ingram Book Company and/or Spring Arbor Book Distributors.
