Continuing a 40-year history with its market-leading Corometrics 250 Series of quality and dependable labor and delivery room products, GE Healthcare announced a new model -- the Corometrics 250cx Series Maternal/Fetal Monitor. The enhanced model comprises a single, unique high-tech system that allows medical facilities to deliver a high-touch experience for every patient from prenatal evaluations to postpartum assessments and every stage in between - including celebrating the birth with a choice of three songs and the following special features:

- Optional Exergen TAT-5000 Maternal TemporalScannerTM that allows clinicians to obtain maternal temperature using a non-invasive infrared technology that detects heat through the skin surface via an external scanner. Temperature readings are automatically recorded on the strip chart and stored with other maternal vital signs in the Vital Signs History (VSHx) section of the monitor. This option provides an additional way to help clinicians remain informed throughout the birthing process.

- Soft color display on the bedside monitor to maintain the low-light atmosphere of a Labor and Delivery Room while allowing clinicians the ability to easily view and distinguish the various maternal and fetal parameters.

- Optional Extend-A-ViewTM 15-inch Color Video Graphics Array (VGA) Remote Display that provides clinicians access to the same maternal and fetal vital parameters as seen on the bedside monitor. This external display can be mounted on the opposite side of the bed or placed in any area that makes it easy for clinician viewing, such as on an anesthesia cart in the operating room.

These new features enhance the unique capabilities previously found only in the Corometrics 250 Series Maternal/Fetal Monitors, such as:

- Smart BPTM that delays automated non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement during contractions to reduce patient distraction and provide more meaningful diagnostic data.

- DINAMAP® SuperSTATTM NIBP technology that decreases the amount of time required to take the blood pressure of a laboring mother thus enhancing patient comfort while retaining reliability.

- Spectra Alerts TM that simultaneously analyze fetal heart rate and uterine activity information and alert the clinicians of deviations from clinically recognized normal patterns and activity.

- ChartLightTM with backlit keys and a dimmable display on the bedside monitor to maintain the more relaxed low-light atmosphere of a labor and delivery room while permitting clinicians the ability the view the various maternal and fetal parameters in a dimly lit patient room.

- Choice of integrated Masimo® SET or Nellcor® Maternal Pulse Oximetry (MSp02) Technology, which allows a clinician to monitor, document, and view the waveform. The selectable three-lead maternal electrocardiogram (ECG) with pacemaker detection and rejection generates maternal heart rate, waveform display, and six-second snapshot printout, when desired.

"Technology is an integral part of the modern birthing process. While childbirth remains an intensely personal experience, the Corometrics 250cx Series monitors provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and confidence to meet the varying needs of both mother and fetus during this dynamic, physically demanding process of labor, birth, and recovery with reliability and accuracy," said Mike Genau, Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare's Maternal Infant Care business. "These advanced monitors are compatible with Centricity TM Perinatal, enabling capture and storage of more comprehensive patient records. Access to the entire history of events during labor and delivery helps with quality decision-making, and contributes to a sense of confidence for both patient and caregiver."
