Minnesota ranked first in the nation in overall state health care quality, according to an annual report released this week by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The fourth annual "State Snapshots" report -- which examined quality of care in the 50 states and Washington, D.C. -- used a formula based on 15 core quality categories measuring common disease treatments to determine the state scores. Minnesota had an overall score of 66.96, while Wisconsin received a score of 66.04. Texas and Florida ranked lower on the list with scores of 35.1 and 38.93, respectively, and Mississippi received a score of 29.63. The full report also ranks 200 additional measures of quality for different types of care, settings and clinical areas (Boulton, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 3/26).

The "State Snapshots" report is available online.
