4S Information Systems Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of the seventh version of its anticoagulation management software, Dawn AC Version 7.

The UK company-trading as 4S Dawn Clinical Software-has made a number of enhancements to the widely-used software package. For example, the latest Dawn AC software application successfully handles the bridging of low-molecular-weight heparin, which can benefit patients with a high risk of clotting when stopping and restarting routine anticoagulation therapy for a procedure that could cause bleeding e.g. colonoscopy.

Also the product now allows multiple tablet size regimens to be prescribed for patients to give better and easier control of these dangerous anticoagulant drugs.

Dawn AC is a robust and flexible product that is the "gold" standard in the industry. It has been evaluated in independent clinical trials and validated to be an effective resource for disease management. Dawn AC is designed to help health care professionals establish a more efficient and safer way to manage anticoagulation patients who are taking warfarin-also known under the brand names Coumadin, Jantoven, and Marevan. This translates into less effort for clinicians and better care for patients.

The comprehensive software package:

- offers complete anticoagulation life cycle, including support for community-based therapy
- can be adapted to users' needs in six key areas: dose algorithm configuration, dosage instruction formats, warning and alarm triggers, test interval settings, letter writing and report writing
- can be used to establish a shared, integrated-care solution between primary and secondary care
- integrates with other anticoagulation software with other information systems, such as laboratory and patient administration systems
- is web browser enabled and is scaleable to handle multi-center or site organizations

The release of Dawn AC Version 7.7 comes at a time when an increasing number of people are taking anticoagulants such as warfarin to diminish blood clotting. Determining the proper dosage of warfarin and Coumadin can be difficult because of their potential reaction to other medications, certain medical conditions and foods loaded with Vitamin K. Therefore, dosing must be closely monitored to optimize the therapeutic effect for patients while minimizing dangerous side effects. Innovative tools such as Dawn AC's anticoagulation management software make it easier for health care professionals to successfully treat patients.

4S is a leading developer of software for the health care industry. Established in 1984, the company launched the first version of its anticoagulation management software in 1987. 4S, which is located near Manchester, has a staff of 14 and more than 300 customers in 17 different countries. An estimated 500,000 patients are monitored approximately six million times per year using Dawn AC software. The company also creates software to monitor for rheumatology, anemia and other chronic diseases.
