BPC 2008: Winner Of Harrison Memorial Medal Announced

Dr Patrick P.A. Humphrey, FRPharmS, OBE has been announced as the winner of the British Pharmaceutical Conference (BPC) 2008 Harrison Memorial Medal. The Medal is awarded every two years to a pharmacist in recognition of outstanding achievement to the science and practice of pharmacy. Dr Humphrey will be presented with the silver medal at BPC, where he will also deliver the Harrison Memorial Lecture.
Dr Humphrey currently serves as a consultant to various pharmaceutical companies, having been Executive Vice President and Head of Research for Theravance Inc. from April 2002 to January 2008. He is the author/co-author of over 500 publications and has been presented with many awards, including the Royal Society Mullard Award and the American National Headache Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award for pioneering research in migraine treatment.
Speaking of his announcement as winner of the Medal, Dr Humphrey said: "It is an honour to have been awarded this year's Harrison Memorial Medal. I very much look forward to participating in the conference and presenting my lecture on drug discovery, which will reflect on the importance of pharmacology as a discipline for all pharmacists regardless of their chosen speciality".

- The Harrison Memorial Medal commemorates Lieutenant-Colonel Frank Harrison, an eminent pharmaceutical chemist and analyst in the early 20th century
- BPC 2008 will have the theme of Pharmacy in the 21st Century: Adding Years to Life and Life to Years. The conference is organised by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and will be held at Manchester Central Convention Complex from Sunday 07 September to Tuesday 09 September.
