The Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) warmly welcomes Quentin Bryce as the first female Governor-General and Australia's 25th Governor-General.

Nurses congratulate her on her achievements and applaud the Prime Minister on this important appointment.

Ged Kearney, ANF Federal Secretary said that the appointment of Ms Bryce was reflective of an increasing recognition of the exceptional contribution women make to Australian society.

As the leader of Australia's largest nursing body, Ms Kearney will be available for media comment regarding this positive announcement.

The ANF, representing nearly 160,000 members, is the professional and industrial voice for nurses and midwives in Australia.
