The Joy to Life Foundation will host its seventh annual "Walk of Life" on Saturday, April 19, at Cramton Bowl in downtown Montgomery. Over 2,500 people are expected to participate this year.
The "Walk of Life" is a fun-filled event that includes a 5 kilometer run/walk, the Mighty Kid's Dash, music, food and prizes. It is designed to raise money for The Joy to Life Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps provide breast cancer screenings and early detection for the medically underserved in the tri-county area.
This funding supports screening mammograms for medically underserved women ages 40 through 49 in Alabama's southern counties through the Alabama Department of Public Health's Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
The walk begins at 7 a.m. at Cramton Bowl. Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright and local breast cancer survivor Sara Beasley will start the run/walk at 8:30 a.m. The Kid's Dash, sponsored by McDonald's, will begin at 9:45 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners. Additional awards will also be given by age category, both male and female.
Entry fees are as follows: ages 15 and older, $25; ages 7-14, $10; and kids ages 6 and under, free. Each paid participant will receive a "Walk of Life" T-shirt. All proceeds will be used by The Joy to Life Foundation to help provide breast cancer screenings.
Joy to Life was founded by Joy and Richard Blondheim of Montgomery. Mrs. Blondheim, a breast cancer survivor, and her husband Richard are dedicating their time and efforts to women who are fighting to win the battle against breast cancer.
