Conservative party leader, David Cameron, set out his vision for the future of general practice at the King's Fund on Monday, 21 April 2008. A video with extracts from the speech is available on our website.
In his third major health speech to the King's Fund since becoming Conservative leader in 2005, Cameron called for bottom-up reform of the NHS, pledging to hand more power and responsibility to NHS professionals, and more choice and freedom to patients.
Setting out the context of the Conservative Party's overall approach to the NHS, Cameron warned that polyclinics should not be imposed on local communities without public support and the backing of local GPs.
