Dr. Patricia Wohlferth-Bethke Hired By AVMA To Oversee AVMA Veterinary Career Center

As part of its continuous effort to improve and enhance the quality of its career center and student programs, the American Veterinary Medical Association has hired Dr. Patricia L. Wohlferth-Bethke as an assistant director in the Membership and Field Services (MFS) Division. Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke's responsibilities will include overseeing the continued evolution and expansion of the AVMA Veterinary Career Center and assisting in the development and enrichment of student AVMA programs.

"Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke's efforts will be dedicated to evolving our already successful Career Center into a more complete, one-stop career exploration hub where veterinarians can look for information and advice on topics such as employment contract negotiations, choosing a career path and exploring professional options. As a veterinarian with a wide range of experiences, we feel confident that she is the right person to lead this effort." said Dr. Rosemary J. LoGiudice, director of the Membership and Field Services Division. "In addition, she will be integral in the development and implementation of new touch points between the AVMA and its student members."

"After a long and rewarding career in both public and private practice, I'm thrilled to be bringing my life experiences and knowledge to this esteemed organization where they will be used to motivate and promote my colleagues as the begin their veterinary career or as they make important career decisions." Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke said.

Prior to joining the AVMA, Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke worked for over two decades at the Dundee Animal Hospital in Dundee, Ill. From 1996 to 2005, Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke also served as animal control administrator for the McHenry County Department of Health where, as a part of her animal control and shelter medicine responsibilities, she worked with members of the public and helped draft the county's Animal Control Ordinance.

Dr. Wohlferth-Bethke received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1981 from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.
