Obesity and corresponding diseases such as diabetes are more and more common. Weight and eating disorders have become especially problematic among young people, creating a need for more information about how to deal with pediatric nutrition questions. To answer this need, SAGE, the world's fifth largest publisher of journals, is launching its newest journal, ICAN: Infant, Child, & Adolescent Nutrition, a multidisciplinary journal for clinicians in pediatric nutrition.

Debuting in January 2009, and supported by an editorial board of dietitians, nurses and nurse practitioners, physicians, speech and language therapists, and specialists in primary and acute pediatric nutritional care, ICAN will be a bimonthly peer-reviewed resource for healthcare professionals involved in nutritional care of children from birth through adolescence. It will offer the latest information concerning impaired eating, eating disorders, breastfeeding education, and chronic and acute care nutritional support through research reports and reviews, clinical perspectives, case studies, and more.

"I'm excited about being a part of such an important project," said Linda Heller, RD, MS, ICAN editor and Clinical Nutrition Director of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. "The launch of this journal recognizes the vital importance that nutrition plays in the health, well-being and development of the child. ICAN will make a significant contribution to addressing some of the most critical pediatric health care issues of our time."

"The launch of ICAN demonstrates SAGE's longstanding commitment to the dissemination of information that can improve lives," said Jayne Marks, SAGE Vice President of Global Journals Business Development. "It is an important addition to our fast growing list of more than 150 STM journals."
