Marvin A Sackner, M.D., Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Board of Directors, Non-Invasive Monitoring Systems, Inc. [NIMS] (OTCBB:NIMU) announced that Professor Masatoshi Fujita and associates, Shiga University of Medical Sciences, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Kitano Hospital, Japan have been awarded a three year grant-in-aid from April 2008 to March 2011 for a study dealing with NIMS' flagship product, Exer-Rest®, as a new treatment for cardiovascular disease. This grant-in-aid was awarded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Exer-Rest is a Class 2A CE 0120, non-invasive, acceleration platform which has the configuration of a single or twin bed and is fitted with a memory foam mattress. Electrical actuation of this device produces whole body periodic acceleration (WBPA) through repetitive head-foot movement at about 140 times per minute over a period of 45 minutes. Professor Fujita's grant will allow his group to extend previously published studies in sedentary individuals who showed improvement of vascular function when treated with WBPA for four weeks. They pointed out that, "Habitual physical activity may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, but the prevalence of physical inactivity is increasing." They concluded that WBPA "might substitute or complement active exercise in patients whose medical condition limits physical activity."

Dr. Sackner noted that the Japanese government grant to Professor Fujita is the first to be awarded by a public agency for study of whole body periodic acceleration in cardiovascular disease. He added that, "NIMS is pleased to be involved in this study as the supplier of Exer-Rest medical devices. The Fujita study may demonstrate that whole body periodic acceleration is a valuable alternative or complementary means to exercise for the management of cardiovascular diseases."

A clinical trial is currently underway to support the intended use of Exer-Rest for temporary relief of musculoskeletal pain associated with osteoarthritis of the lower extremities (hips and knees) in order to meet FDA approval for its marketing in the United States.
