Connect Imaging, Inc., developer of customizable PACS (picture archiving and communication systems), has released a new version of its Mammo ViewBox software to support a super high resolution mammography display from Totoku Electric Co., Ltd., of Japan. The new software will be introduced at the annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) in Seattle May 15-18.

According to Philip J. Manly, chief executive officer of Connect Imaging, the company's mammography workstation software is the first to support the ISD technology of the Totoku MS51i2 digital mammography display. "Totoku developed a novel way to triple the resolution of its 5 MP (mega pixel) monitor, but taking advantage of the higher resolution required some software changes," Manly said. "Connect Imaging made these necessary modifications a priority. We now can offer this workstation software to all users of digital mammography. Though it works most efficiently when combined with other mammography modules in the Connect Imaging PACS, our Mammo ViewBox workstation software is compatible with any DICOM archive."

Madhu Reddy, president of U.S. Electronics, Inc., Totoku's leading worldwide distributor, said, "We believe this display is a significant improvement over standard 5 MP mammography displays, even those that can display 10 bits of gray scale. We talked with several PACS companies about the software changes that would be necessary to support the higher resolution. Connect Imaging responded immediately, and is now the first PACS company to release software that supports our new monitor."

Manly said the software is an example of Connect's ability to respond quickly to customer requests. "Because many of our clients utilize complex workflow, Connect Imaging has developed the capacity to handle customization quickly," he said. "Within a few weeks of receiving engineering samples of the Totoku monitor, we had implemented the changes."

Connect Imaging will display its newest software module, the Mammo ViewBox workstation, with the Totoku MS51i2 digital monitor, at Booth No. 1102, where attendees can view the improved image quality of the 15 MP display. Other PACS modules in the Connect Imaging product line also will be demonstrated. U.S. Electronics also will be exhibiting the Totoku MS51i2 monitor at Booth No. 340.
