In response to the announcement of the Government's Anti Social Behaviour Action Squad initiative, Clare Tickell, Chief Executive of NCH, the children's charity says:
"This initiative shows an ongoing commitment to tackling the most persistent perpetrators of anti social behaviour. The emphasis should be on early intervention and tackling underlying causes to ensure success.
"Our work with young people and their families shows that dealing with gaps in parenting skills, alcohol or drug abuse, domestic violence and truancy reduces ongoing anti social behaviour.
"NCH believes the right balance between enforcement and support must be struck as young people are more often victims of anti social behaviour than the perpetrators.
"Early intervention and family support services should be expanded and made accessible across communities most affected."
