The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and Nature Publishing Group (NPG) are pleased to announce a new publishing partnership. From January 2009, NPG will publish American Journal of Gastroenterology, the official publication of the ACG.

Established in 1934, The American Journal of Gastroenterology is the number one clinical journal in gastroenterology, with an Impact Factor of 5.608 (according to the Journal Citation Report, Thomson, 2007). The journal is led by Editors-in-Chief Joel E. Richter, MD, MACG of Temple University, and Nicholas J. Talley, MD, FACG of the Mayo Clinic in Florida.

"The College views The American Journal of Gastroenterology as its greatest asset because of its solid reputation as the most relevant, useful and widely read journal among GI clinicians," said ACG President Amy E. Foxx-Orenstein, D.O., FACG. "We could not have found better partners to entrust with the Journal's reputation than our colleagues at Nature Publishing Group. We believe this partnership will enrich the scientific life of the College and the field of clinical gastroenterology."

Aimed at practicing clinicians, articles published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology deal directly with the disorders seen most often in patients. The journal brings a broad-based, interdisciplinary approach to the study of gastroenterology, including articles reporting on current observations, research results, methods of treatment, drugs, epidemiology, and other topics relevant to clinical gastroenterology.

NPG was chosen by the American College of Gastroenterology as the publisher of The American Journal of Gastroenterology because of its strategic capabilities and experience in publishing premier research journals in science and clinical medicine. American Journal of Gastroenterology is currently published by Blackwell Publishing.

"NPG is pleased to partner with the ACG to publish and develop their excellent journal, The American Journal of Gastroenterology," says Joy Moore, NPG's Publisher for society and partner-owned publications. "This partnership fulfils our mission to provide the highest quality information to the global scientific community. We look forward to strengthening the journal's status as an essential source of knowledge for physicians around the world and supporting the ACG's goals to promote research, treatment and prevention of GI-related disorders."
