Re-infecting pathogens are the latest target for infectious disease control methods. Historically, other infections that illicit life-long solid immunity have been controlled successfully using vaccination.

Mathematical techniques are well-established for such infections and have been used to design intervention strategies.

Until recently re-infecting pathogens have provided a greater public health challenge. Suitable chemotherapies are now becoming available for many re-infecting pathogens.
