Michael D. Ruff, R. Ph., CPIP, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development for Metrics, Inc., has met the global competency standard and has been conferred the Certified Pharmaceutical Industry Professional (CPIP SM) credential by the ISPE Professional Certification Commission (ISPE-PCC).

Ruff is one of nine professionals to be awarded this new certification and was assessed through demonstrated education, industry experience, and a rigorous examination. The new credential offers the first competency-based international certification for pharmaceutical professionals and covers a range of competencies from drug product development through manufacturing.

The new certification offers enhanced credibility, peer respect and recognition, and greater opportunities for professional advancement.

Ruff is a registered pharmacist and has more than 20 years of experience in the development of new chemical entities, with a focus on oncology, CNS, and anti-viral drugs. His experience includes formulation and process development of non-sterile dosage forms; development of instant, sustained, controlled, enteric, and colonic-release drug delivery systems; formulation optimization of insoluble, unstable, and poorly bioavailable compounds, oral drug delivery of large (protein) molecules; preparation of clinical trial materials for Phase I-III studies; and writing regulatory submissions and technical reports for the FDA.

In addition, Ruff holds several U.S. patents for pharmaceutical applications, and has authored a number of technical papers that have been presented at national and international industry events - including ISPE conferences.
