Which? Comments On PM's Commitment To "Put More Power In The Hands Of Patients" UK
Main Category: Public HealthArticle Date: 19 May 2008 - 4:00 PDT
After Prime Minister, Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, announced plans for a new NHS constitution that would give patients a greater say in their care, Which? health campaigner, Clare Corbett, says:
"Patients tell us they don't complain because they don't think it will make a difference. So hearing the Prime Minister commit to giving patients more of a say in how the NHS is run is certainly a step in the right direction.
"Bad experiences in the softer aspects of care slow down recovery - things like cleanliness, food and the way staff treat patients. Let's hope these proposals really will 'put more power in the hands of patients', so that what is already a traumatic experience isn't made worse by sub-standard care."

In October 2007 Which? launched its Impatient for change campaign to fight for improvements in the standards of care received by hospital in-patients. For more information, visit http://www.which.co.uk/impatientforchange
