The Acuson S2000 ultrasound system launched into the UK marketplace by Siemens draws together the latest imaging innovations to optimise workflow, simplify examinations and is readily prepared for the future of ultrasound evolution. It is suitable for general imaging including Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN) as well as vascular and cardiac imaging.

The S2000 is the first system of Siemens new generation of premier ultrasound products. It offers pioneering strain imaging and quantification capabilities. 'Virtual Touch imaging' and 'Virtual Touch quantification' displaces tissues for a qualitative and quantitative assessment of deep tissue stiffness by introducing the world's first implementation of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI). Current research suggests that this type of assessment maybe useful for the differentiation of liver tumours and quantification of fibrosis progression. 'eSie Touch elasticity imaging' produces strain imaging in superficial tissue using minimal tissue compression to displace lesions and surrounding tissue to further aid diagnosis.

The ACUSON S2000 is also ready for silicon transducer ultrasound technology, the first groundbreaking development in probe technology in over 40 years.

The system features knowledge based workflow applications to dramatically improve the efficiency of ultrasound exams. In obstetrics, for example, the software addition 'syngo Auto OB' creates semi-automatic biometric measurements of the foetus and can save 75% of the normal operation steps in a routine examination. 'Syngo eSie Calcs' software automatically detects boundaries and is used for automatic measurements in 2D and Volume imaging.

The system has Advances Four-sight technology (3D/4D) which provides improved functionality for volume acquisition, data rendering and post processing. This software also includes Amnioscopic rendering which represents a unique method of surface rendering which provides detailed view of the foetus. Foetal heart Spatio-Temporal Image Correlation (STIC) acquires data over the course of several cardiac cycles to create a 3D volume of the foetal heart to aid diagnosis of cardiac anomalies.

The ACUSON S2000 is also ergonomically designed to give ultimate user comfort. Whether sitting or standing, all the controls are within reach of the user to provide simple and stress-free operation. The flexible articulating arm and high resolution 19-inch flat panel display ensures optimal monitor placement and clear image quality in all lighting situations.
