American Health Lawyers Association is pleased to announce the release of its newest publication, Clinical Research Practice Guide, First Edition. The publication contains expert analysis by leading attorneys and Health Lawyers members.

Clinical trials play an essential part in the advancement of healthcare in the U.S. and abroad. They are designed to evaluate, using human subjects, the safety and efficiency of new drugs, devices, treatments, or preventative measures. As heath law and life sciences continues to overlap, those who represent healthcare entities need a better understanding of that interrelationship, and Heath Lawyers believes this Guide will deliver that.

Topics in the Guide include: Protection of Human Research Subjects; Institutional Review Boards: Ensuring the Protection of Human Research Participants; A Brief Overview of the Federal Regulatory Approval Process for Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices, and Biological; Regulatory Oversight and Investigations; An Overview of Intellectual Property for the Healthcare Law Practitioner; Information Management in Clinical Trials; and Insurance Coverage for Clinical Trials.

Authors for the Guide include Mark G. Bloom, JD, CLP, CRCP, Vice President for Projects and Consulting for Business Success Strategists LLC; Patricia Brent, JD, MPH, President of Morgan Hill Associates; J. Andrew Lemons, Esq., Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz PC; Melissa L. Markey, Esq., Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman PC; R. Harold McCard, Esq., Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Division IV for Community Health Systems; Elizabeth J. McCubrey, Esq., MPH, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal; Lena Robins, Esq., Foley & Lardner LLP; and Lawrence W. Vernaglia, JD, MPH, Foley & Lardner LLP.
