ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - Banez and colleagues demonstrate a relationship in biochemical recurrence following RRP with the patient's lipid profile.
Investigators found that elevated serum cholesterol and elevated serum LDL were independent risk factors for biochemical failure. This study begs the question of whether improvement of the lipid profile reduces the patient's risk of biochemical failure.
Emerging data on the long-term use of statins and consequent reduction in risk of high grade prostate cancer certainly gives hope that such risk reduction is indeed possible.
