ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - The authors report a retrospective analysis of a 53-patient cohort who underwent systematic urothelial surveillance for at least 24 months following initial endoscopic laser treatment of upper tract TCC.
The authors report that nearly all (97%) bladder tumors that were found in this patient population during surveillance were low grade and superficial. This data is clearly a testament to astute patient selection that was used to guide patients toward endoscopic treatment of upper tract disease. The authors were clearly able to discern non-hostile urothelial disease biology when advising against nephroureterectomy.
I am willing to bet that not many of these patients had sessile upper tract lesions at the onset (Read a Related Review).
