Diabetes UK would like to say a huge 'Thank you' to everyone who helped to make this year's Diabetes Week such a great success - we could not have done it without you.

Throughout the week our staff, volunteers and supporters have been busy raising funds and highlighting the fact that diabetes is serious.

Highlights

Diabetes Week 2008 was kick-started on Sunday 8 June by CBBC presenters Ortis Deley and Ed Petrie and almost 400 walkers who together converged on Regent's Park for 'Walk in the Park'.

Cast members of the film 'The Escapist' and celebrities then came together on Tuesday for the film's UK premiere. The screening was held in aid of Diabetes UK and tickets sold out in no time.

The Diabetes UK Roadshow spent five days at the 'Body Worlds' exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, supported by our North West regional office. Over 100 people were tested for diabetes each day.

National coverage

A concerted media drive for the week resulted in coverage in nine national newspaper articles, a 'Sunday Telegraph' supplement, an 'OK!' magazine feature and news items on 'GMTV' and 'Sky News', as well as numerous regional radio, television and newspaper outlets.

Congratulations

"Congratulations - this has been the most successful Diabetes Week to date," said Diabetes UK Chief Executive, Douglas Smallwood,

"I am extremely grateful to all our staff, volunteers and supporters who have unselfishly contributed their time and energy to help raise vital funds and strengthen our messages about the seriousness of diabetes. Thank you."
