Parkinson's Disease Society voices concerns over UK Government's abolition of patient involvement
Main Category: Public HealthArticle Date: 23 Jul 2004 - 15:00 PDT
The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) of the UK is extremely concerned that the abolition of the Commission for Public and Patient Involvement announced yesterday will undermine the involvement of patients in local health services.
Following the abolition of the Community Health Councils in England, the CPPIH was introduced to ensure there is an independent voice for patients and the public in health services and it has underpinned the setting up of the local Patient Forums.
The PDS believes that the views of patients should be heard and calls on the Government to announce without delay how the work of the CPPIH will be maintained in the future and demonstrate its commitment to ensuring patients remain at the heart of the NHS.
