More than 200,000 children in Illinois are estimated to have no health insurance coverage, a staggering statistic and a fact that puts them at risk of not getting even the basic immunizations and checkups they need. Many parents may simply not be aware that there is an option for their uninsured children: the state's All Kids program (http://www.allkidscovered.com), which provides affordable checkups, routine immunizations, medications and more for all Illinois children based on household income and family size.

The Chicago Sun-Times and Resurrection Health Care have teamed up to get the word out. The mission: Enroll 1,000 Illinois children in one day through volunteers stationed around the city. To do that, volunteers will be stationed at more than 50 locations on Saturday, June 21, 2008 to enroll children in the program.

"It is truly, utterly tragic that so many children aren't getting access to the very basic health care they need and deserve. It is time to change that, and that's why the Chicago Sun-Times has joined Resurrection in this wonderful effort," said Michael Cooke, Sun-Times Editor-in-Chief. "These are our children, our neighbors' children, we are talking about, and we are delighted to help with this worthy cause."

Volunteers are welcome: To learn more about volunteering, or to learn about getting children insured, call (877) RES-INFO. For a list of signup locations, go to http://www.suntimes.com.
