Minister Clement Re-Appoints Members To The Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission's Council Of Governors, Canada

The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, announced the reappointment of Dennis Nikkel and George Harold Stewart to their respective positions on the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission's (HMIRC) Council of Governors for three-year terms.

"It comes as a great pleasure to announce the re-appointments of Mr. Nikkel and Mr. Stewart to the HMIRC Council of Governors," said Minister Clement. "Their continued dedication and active involvement have contributed greatly to the success of the Council over the past three years, and will surely continue throughout the next term."

Representing Manitoba on the Council of Governors is Dennis Nikkel. Mr. Nikkel has been working in the field of occupational hygiene for 34 years, and is currently the Director of the Occupational Hygiene Branch of the Workplace Safety and Health Division of the Manitoba Department of Labour and Immigration. Mr. Nikkel has developed guidelines to provide assistance to Manitoba workers, employers and professionals, including the Guidelines for Working with Asbestos, Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Guidelines and the Worker's Guide to Air Quality in Offices, Schools and Hospitals, among others.

George Harold Stewart, a Ryerson graduate, has been serving in the Occupational Health and Safety field in Prince Edward Island for 27 years. Among his many career accomplishments, Mr. Stewart was appointed to administer occupational health and safety activities related to the construction of the Fixed Link, the bridge linking PEI to New Brunswick. He was also the first chairperson of the PEI Chapter for the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, as well as the first chairperson for the Charlottetown Safe Communities Initiative. Mr. Stewart has published a variety of articles and pamphlets on numerous workplace safety topics. Mr. Stewart will continue to serve the HMIRC Council of Governors as the workers representative for the Workers Compensation Board of PEI.
