President of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA) and Vice President of the Rural Doctors Association of South Australia, Dr Peter Rischbieth, will tomorrow (Wednesday) hold a media doorstop at Parliament House in Canberra to:
- emphasise the Rural Doctors Association of Australia's strong concerns with-and rejection of-the South Australian Government's proposed plan to downgrade 43 rural hospitals across the state, including shutting down acute inpatient care at these hospitals
- reiterate RDAA's call for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to intervene in the matter, to ensure the preservation of existing services provided at these hospitals (including acute inpatient care and emergency care) and the continued availability of local obstetric services at those rural hospitals currently providing them
- again call for the introduction by the federal and state governments of a National Rural Health Obligation to ensure, once and for all, a proper standard of access to local hospitals, doctors and health services for all rural Australians
