Division of Forensic Psychology Annual Conference 2008
The British Psychological Society's Division of Forensic Psychology is holding its Annual Conference 2008 between Tuesday 24 June and Thursday 26 June at the Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot-Watt University.
It is anticipated that around 100 psychologists working within forensic settings will attend the conference and more than 90 papers and posters will be presented. Among the themes for the conference are:
- Car insurance companies have wrong idea about fraudsters
- Terrorist's use the internet to recruit
- Paedophile's use the internet for support
Keynote speakers:
David Finkelhor Ph.D. will discuss the damage that misleading stereotypes about internet sex crimes against children is causing in Myths and Realities of Online Sex Crimes involving Children and suggest different ways to educate children that would be better geared to the reality of the problem
Professor Don Dutton will discuss his latest research on men who are violent to their partners in Domestic Violence: The Abusive Personality. The Professor defined a number of common personality traits and childhood experiences that may factor in men being violent in relationships. He will argue that those with a tendency towards violence may have heredity as well as learned behaviours.
Professor John Livesley will discuss an integrated approach to the treatment of personality disorders for use in forensic settings in Integrated Treatment for Personality Disorder.
