ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - Following the initial spinal shock after spinal cord injury (SCI), abnormal micturition reflexes arise.

This group from France suggested that antibiotics may alter bladder neuroplasticity following SCI that may in turn decrease detrusor overactivity.

Using a rat SCI model, they demonstrated a decreased emergence of abnormal micturition reflexes and decreased mortality in the rats that received combination antibiotic therapy or antibiotics with aseptic care.
