The  Irish  Medical  Times has issued a call for entries for the annual Irish Healthcare Awards, which will be presided over by  a panel of distinguished judges. The prestigious awards will take place on  16th  October  and  the  closing date for entries is Friday, August 8th 2008.   The  awards  began  in 2002 and have attracted increasing number of entries from individuals and groups all around the country.

"With  entries  last  year increasing by an overwhelming 55% on 2007, these awards  are  growing  in  popularity and stature among those working in the healthcare  sector.  The  awards recognise excellence and innovation in the fields  of  education,  pharmaceutical innovation, healthcare collaboration and  patient support and apply to anyone working in acute and primary care, public  health, the private sector and IT," said Michael Diviney, publisher of  the  Irish  Medical  Times. "They offer an opportunity to celebrate the high  quality  of projects or individuals that are deserving of recognition for  their  contribution  to  this  sector.  This  year we are delighted to announce the introduction of two brand new categories, one which celebrates excellence  in  healthcare  management and another rewarding innovation and excellence in research."

Award  winners  from  2007  included  GSK for their Cervical Cancer Disease Awareness  campaign,  Abbott  Pharmaceuticals  and  the Coombe Hospital for their  Neonatal  Post Discharge Support programme and Arthritis Ireland for its Arthritis Self Management programme. The Respiratory Outreach Programme in  the  Respiratory  Unit  in  St.  James's  Hospital in Dublin was also a winner,  with  the  major  prize of last year's awards going to the CODÉIRE study,  sponsored  by  GSK  and  led  by  Professor  John Nolan, Consultant Endocrinologist  in  St.  James's  Hospital,  Dublin,  and  aimed  to raise awareness of the growing diabetes epidemic.

Entries  for  this  year's awards are welcomed from all areas of the health sector,  both public and private.
