RADI Medical Systems announced improvements to their latest generation pressure sensing guide wire, PressureWire(R) Certus, which will begin shipments immediately.
The latest generation of the PressureWire(R) Certus features a new ergonomically designed proximal connector which provides three key advantages for physicians. The new large entry funnel allows for fast and easy wire reconnection into the proximal connector, while also exhibiting less insertion friction. In addition, the new locking cap provides positive reinforcement when the wire and the connector are locked in place via a user intuitive on and off twist function.
"The updated PressureWire(R) Certus is another step forward in ease of use," commented Nico Pijls, MD, Department of Cardiology at Catharina Hospital, Eindhoven, the Netherlands. "I am pleased that improvements to PressureWire(R) Certus occur frequently to assist in measuring FFR in more challenging anatomy, such as we faced in the recently completed FAME study (Fractional flow reserve vs. Angiography for Multivessel Evaluation). In this multicenter randomized trial involving 1000 patients, FFR was measured in 3 arteries per patient using PressureWire(R). Successful, unequivocally interpretable measurement could be achieved in 99.3% of all coronary arteries thanks to recent improvements to the PressureWire(R)."
The PressureWire(R) Certus is used in the assessment of Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR). FFR expresses the maximum achievable blood flow in a coronary artery with abnormal stenosis as a fraction of maximum blood flow in the absence of a stenosis. FFR is 100% specific in identifying which lesions are actually causing the flow restriction and may be treated.
"Radi continues to make improvements to the PressureWire(R) to improve product performance, and ultimately patient care," commented Jason Rudy, Director of Marketing of Radi Medical Systems, Inc. "This is a further improvement to PressureWire(R) Certus which has already received impressive physician performance feedback."
