For the vast majority of biological systems we have no idea as to which mathematical description is best and this ignorance seriously hinders progress in many areas of the biomedical sciences.
Unfortunately, parameters often cannot be measured experimentally.
We developed a new statistical technique applicable to models that can be easily simulated, and for which a time series data is available.
Moreover, the technique can choose between different hypotheses biologists make about the system, even when hypotheses cannot be experimentally tested.
