The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) hosted its convention June 30-July 5 in Dallas, TX where Diagnostic Devices, Inc., makers of Prodigy® blood glucose monitoring systems, received the Access Plus Award (A+). "The A+ Award program was designed to reward companies that make consumer products that are truly accessible for blind people" said Eileen Rivera Ley, Director of Diabetes Initiatives for the NFB on the Access Plus Award. The A+ is for a product that affords the blind the same convenience and features available to everyone else and is awarded only to those products and services that meet the highest standards of accessibility.

"Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in America and 3.2 million people are visually impaired, yet for some reason, most diabetes products don't even consider the needs of the visually impaired" Ley observed. DDI has recognized this need and has created the Prodigy® Voice with the help of many blind organizations and Certified Diabetes Educators.

The NFB is strongly endorsing the use of the Prodigy® Voice for all diabetics especially for those who are low vision or blind and making it available for them in retail stores across the United States. Prodigy® meters are available throughout most mail-order distributors and upon request in major retail stores.

For more information about the Access Plus Award or the Prodigy® Voice, visit http://www.prodigymeter.com or http://www.nfb.org or call Diagnostic Devices, Inc. at 1-800-366-5901 (USA).
