The Medical Defence Union, the UK's leading medical defence organisation, has announced a new addition to its educational programme, the MDU Professionalism in Medicine & Healthcare Workshop. Targeting hospital doctors and those in general practice, the workshop focuses on the nature of professionalism and how it applies to daily clinical practice.
Dr. Peter Schütte, Head of Advisory Services commented: "Professionalism has become a buzzword in recent years but it's not always clear what this really means. However, the expectations placed on today's doctors have increased tremendously with patients who are increasingly well informed, the imposition of targets, growing caseloads and the growing burden of regulation. This workshop will help doctors to reflect on what tactics they can employ to practice in this demanding environment."
The workshop will run over the course of one day at the MDU offices and will include large and small group discussions covering:
- Professional expectations and obligations
- Stress and time management
- Professional leadership
- Achieving a work-life balance
The workshop will be led by Mark Brennan, a clinical educator specialising in clinical ethics, law and professionalism. Mark is an Honorary Associate Dean in the Postgraduate Deanery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He also teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency. Mark will be joined by a doctor from the MDU's medico-legal advisory team and an MDU liaison manager who will provide practical advice and be available to answer questions.
The workshop will take place on Thursday 30 October 2008
Registration fees are £150 for MDU members and £195 for non-MDU members and delegates will receive an attendance certificate, lunch and refreshments
To reserve a place, delegates can download an enrolment form from the MDU website at http://www.the-mdu.com
