The Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) has designated November 1-7, 2008, as "Urology Nurses and Associates Week" to celebrate the unique skills and contributions of urology nurses and associates.

During this special week, SUNA encourages facilities and organizations across the country to honor the dedicated work of urology nurses and associates. These devoted health care providers care for patients across the lifespan, providing guidance and treatment for a variety of urologic diseases and concerns. They work in all health care settings and specialize in such areas as continence care, male/female sexual dysfunction, infertility, oncology, surgery, cystoscopy and urodynamics.

Patients, employers and colleagues will show their appreciation for urology nurses and associates with activities recognizing their commitment to education and improving quality of life. As in previous years, activities will include special events, luncheons, education programs, special presentations and proclamations from local governments.

In addition to recognizing urology nurses and associates, the week is also meant to encourage other nurses to explore the many career opportunities available in urology nursing.

"Urology nurses and associates are committed to their patients and providing excellent care," said SUNA President Tamara Dickinson, RN, CURN, CCCN, BCIA-PMBD. "SUNA is proud to lead this weeklong celebration honoring this great group of nurses!"

Urology Nurses and Associates Week began in 2006. November 1-7 has been set aside each year to give employers, patients and others a chance to thank urology nurses and associates for their work.

More information about Urology Nurses and Associates Week and SUNA is available by contacting the National Office at 888-TAP-SUNA (827-7862); e-mail: suna@ajj.com; online: http://www.suna.org.
