This interdisciplinary convention addresses cultural, social, ethnic and religious practices and beliefs among health care professionals and their patients, and would be a valuable benefit to:

Health administrators; physicians; residents; medical students; nurses; student nurses; social workers; speech, physical, and occupational therapists; human resource professionals; hospital chaplains; educators; researchers; pharmacists, and other key healthcare in acute, long-term and ambulatory healthcare settings.

Why attend?

You live it every day: the changing ethnic and cultural makeup of the healthcare workplace and the growing diversity of your patients. When you join us for our two-day journey toward cultural competence, you'll learn from experts in the healthcare setting. As we "bridge cultural bridges in health care," all the health disciplines will gain valuable information on how to create a more effective, productive and enjoyable workplace and an environment in which patients benefit from understanding and culturally sensitive care.

This national convention offers a wide spectrum of programs and sessions on:

- transcultural nursing
- cultural competence in healthcare settings
- healthcare workforce diversity
- effective care of the culturally diverse patient
- conflict resolution
- cross-cultural communication
- nursing shortages and the education of nurses
- healthcare beliefs and practices of different cultural groups
. disparities and inequities in health care
- the nation's healthcare crisis

You'll also have the chance to meet with national and international organizations in the Exhibit Hall, from recruiters to universities, from healthcare providers to professional organizations.

Convention Objectives:

1. Describe cultural differences among an increasingly diverse healthcare workforce

2. Describe innovative ways to meet and exceed expectations of an increasingly diverse patient population

3. Identify strategies for evaluating the outcomes of culturally competent care

4. Increase self-awareness and receptivity to diverse patient populations by heathcare professionals
