Springer and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) have signed a partnership agreement to publish the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology (JNC). Springer will publish the journal both online and in print beginning in January 2009 with Volume 16, Issue 1. The journal's back issues to Volume 1 (1994) will be available through the Springer Online Archives Collection on http://www.springerlink.com. JNC is a bi-monthly publication previously published by Elsevier.

JNC is the official publication of the ASNC and is the only journal in the world devoted to the dynamic and growing subspecialty of nuclear cardiology. Physicians and technologists value the journal not only for its peer-reviewed articles, but also for its timely discussions on the current and future role of nuclear cardiology. Original articles address all aspects of nuclear cardiology, including interpretation, diagnosis, imaging equipment and use of radiopharmaceuticals. As the official publication of the ASNC, the journal also brings readers the latest information emerging form the Society's task forces and publishes guidelines and position papers as they are adopted. Editor-in-Chief, George A. Beller M.D., the Ruth C. Heede Professor of Cardiology and former Chief of the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Virginia Health System, is supported by an international editorial board.

ASNC's Executive Director, Steve Carter, said, "Springer's online platform SpringerLink, with Online First, will ensure that articles are published quickly and efficiently, offering readers electronic access to newly published material before it appears in print."

Dr. William F. Curtis, Executive Vice President, Clinical Medicine at Springer, said, "Springer is proud to partner with ASNC in advancing the international growth of the Society and its dissemination of important scientific and clinical information. Springer's strong international publishing programs in both cardiology and nuclear medicine are further enhanced by the publication of JNC."

Springer will publish JNC in both print and electronic formats to serve the needs of librarians and specialists around the world. Articles will be published in Online First in full text via SpringerLink. Cross Reference Linking and Alert services will be fully implemented for the journal. All authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, will have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model.

ASNC was founded in 1993 and currently has more than 4,700 members comprised of physicians, scientists, technologists, computer specialists and other personnel who work in the nuclear cardiology field. ASNC provides its members with a variety of continuing medical education programs related to nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular computed tomography (CT), promotes accreditation and certification in nuclear cardiology and is the principal advocacy voice for the profession.
