The Louisville Courier-Journal on Sunday in the second installment of a three-part series examining health insurance coverage looks at the "plight of young adults." According to the Courier-Journal, 394,000 people -- or between one quarter and one-third -- of adults in Kentucky and Indiana ages 20 to 30 are uninsured.

The Courier-Journal notes a number of reasons for the high uninsurance rates for the group, including the fact that young adults are more likely to be employed part-time or have employers that do not offer health insurance; have lower incomes that make it difficult to afford paying premiums; "or they simply decide to spend their money on other things -- gambling they won't be hurt in a car wreck, get seriously ill or become pregnant" (Louisville Courier-Journal, 9/7).
