GenoMed Offers Only Published West Nile Treatment Free Of Charge
Main Category: Infectious Diseases / Bacteria / VirusesArticle Date: 12 Sep 2008 - 5:00 PDT
GenoMed® (OTC Pink Sheets GMED.PK), the Public Health Company™, announced today, as the WNV season reaches its peak, that it still has the only effective treatment against West Nile virus encephalitis published in the medical literature.
GenoMed first filed a patent for using a common class of blood pressure pills against most viruses during the SARS epidemic in 2003. The patent is pending. A pending patent has the same legal standing as a granted patent, meaning that license fees can be charged.
Nevertheless, GenoMed is offering its treatment for West Nile virus free of charge, in keeping with its mission to improve public health.
GenoMed's first 8 WNV patients were published in July, 2004. Since then, GenoMed has had 80% success in human patients (23 of 29) as well as horses (8 of 10), and 50% (6 of 12) in birds.
Said David Moskowitz MD, GenoMed's CEO and Chief Medical Officer, "Today is a very sad day for our country. GenoMed would like to do its part to make people feel just a little bit better."
