The annual General Assembly of the World Medical Association will be held at The Shilla Hotel from 15 to 18 October 2008.
The programme of the meeting will be:
Wednesday - 15 October: Committees
Thursday - 16 October: Scientific session
Friday - 17 October am: Council meeting
Assembly Ceremonial Session
Saturday - 18 October: General Assembly
The theme of the scientific session is 'Health and Human Rights' and 'Medical Ethics and Human Rights Advocacy'.
Among the issues on the agenda at the meeting are:
- The Declaration of Helsinki on medical research
- Reducing dietary sodium intake
- Resistance to antimicrobial drugs
- Access of women to health care
- Capital punishment
The World Medical Association (WMA) is the independent confederation of national medical associations from more than 80 countries and represents more than eight million physicians. Acting on behalf of patients and physicians, the WMA endeavours to achieve the highest possible standards of medical care, ethics, education and health-related human rights for all people.
