Nursing And Midwifery Council Asks Public What Would Get Them Interested In Regulation, UK

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) safeguards the health and wellbeing of the public by setting standards for nursing and midwifery education and practice. We keep a register of nurses and midwives qualified to work in the UK and enforce professional standards by investigating allegations of misconduct and sanctioning those practitioners whose practise falls below what is expected of a nurse or midwife.

The provision of how health services are being delivered is changing and we need to make sure that we are keeping pace and in some cases ahead of new developments. One of the areas where we know there is a need for improvement is the way in which we communicate and engage with individuals and groups. We're developing new ways of communicating and working with the many people who are interested or involved in our work and we want to hear your ideas about how we can do this.

As a first step, we're holding a series of events across the UK in late September. This is your opportunity to tell us:

- what areas of NMC work you're most interested in
- how you want to be informed and involved in that work

The events are open to everyone, patients, members of the public, nurses, midwives and any interested organisations. We're particularly keen to hear from patients, members of the public and nurses and midwives in daily practice.

Thursday 25 September - Manchester
Monday 29 September - Cardiff
Tuesday 30 September - Glasgow

The discussion will be very open as we explore ideas around new approaches to communication and participation. The results of these events will inform high level strategies on communication and stakeholder engagement. These events are the first stage in developing new approaches to engagement and communication, so if you are unable to attend due to the short notice, there will be further opportunities for you to get involved in future.

Registration for each event is at 10:30am and we will finish at 3pm. Lunch is provided

The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) is the UK regulator for two professions, nursing and midwifery. To be eligible to work as a nurse or midwife in the UK, they must be registered with the NMC. There are currently more than 674,000 nurses and midwives on the register. The primary purpose of the NMC is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public. It does this through maintaining a register of all nurses and midwives to practise within the UK and by setting standards for their education, training and conduct.
