The more than 12 million estimated Americans suffering from sleep apnea don't have to sacrifice convenience for a good night's sleep anymore thanks to the increasing abundance of highly efficient and portable electromechanical devices commonly used to treat the disorder. According to Kalorama Information's new report, "Contract Manufacturing Opportunities in High-Growth Medical Devices (Catheters, Pacemakers, LVADs, Hip and Knee Implants, Air Pathways, Syringes)," these PAP devices have become the standard and most effective treatment available.
The PAP devices, which include Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP), and Variable Positive Airway Pressure (VPAP) machines, take some getting used to, but each features tremendous benefits and minimal side effects.
The CPAP machines, for example, blow a fixed amount of air pressure constantly throughout the duration of the user's sleep cycle. The air pressure forces the airway or air passage open and eliminates apneas, hypopneas, and snoring almost entirely. The result is a night of restorative and restful sleep for the user. Perhaps best of all, the newer CPAP machines are about the size of two video cassette (VHS) tapes stacked on top of each other.
"PAP machines used to be very large and impractical, but the realities of everyday life have lead to lighter, more portable machines," notes Bruce Carlson, publisher of Kalorama Information. "People shift while they sleep and not receiving effective, continuous treatment because of this is simply unrealistic."
People of all ages are susceptible to sleep apnea. However, the need for portable yet proficient PAP devices is becoming ever more important due to the growth in the aging of the world's population afflicted with long term chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedics, diabetes and asthma.
Kalorama Information's report, "Contract Manufacturing Opportunities in High-Growth Medical Devices (Catheters, Pacemakers, LVADs, Hip and Knee Implants, Air Pathways, Syringes)," examines the key contract manufacturing companies and marketers involved in seven global high growth medical device market segments.
