Springer will partner with the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society (CAS) to publish the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia / Journal canadien d'anesthésie (CJA) starting in January 2009. CJA, a monthly publication previously self-published by CAS, will enhance Springer's expanding portfolio of books and journals in the field of anesthesiology.

The Canadian Journal of Anesthesia / Journal canadien d'anesthésie gives readers access to the latest advances in anesthesia, acute and chronic pain, perioperative medicine and critical care medicine. The journal publishes peer-reviewed, high-profile clinical research, basic research with an impact apparent to clinicians, and expert reviews and opinions. A New Media section, book reviews and a correspondence section complete the contents. Editor-in-Chief, Donald R. Miller, MD, an Associate Professor of Anesthesia at the University of Ottawa, and staff anesthesiologist at The Ottawa Hospital, is supported by an editorial board providing international perspective and exposure.

CAS' Executive Director, Stanley Mandarich, said, "Springer's Online First service, a feature of their online platform SpringerLink, lets users access articles well before print publication. These articles are searchable and citable and significantly reduce the time it takes for critical discoveries to reach the research community."

Dr. William F. Curtis, Executive Vice President, Clinical Medicine at Springer, said, "Springer and the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society are committed to producing an excellent, clinically oriented journal. We look forward to strengthening the journal's status as an essential source of knowledge for anesthesiologists."

Springer will publish CJA both online and in print beginning in January 2009 with Volume 56, Issue 1. The journal's back issues to Volume 1 (1954) will be available on http://www.springerlink.com/, Springer's online information platform. Features include fast, electronic publication in Online First™, Cross Reference Linking and Table of Contents Alerts.
