Community pharmacies in Wales will, from February 2009, be able to offer an allergy screening service to members of the public. The initiative from Allergy UK in association with the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) will train pharmacists to provide advice and support for allergy sufferers in the principality.

The allergy screening service will offer a consultation during which a full clinical history will be taken by the pharmacist who will have undergone special training both by the Welsh Centre for Postgraduate Pharmacy Education at Cardiff University and with the Clinical Director of Allergy UK, John Collard. On-going support and information for the allergy sufferer will then be provided by Allergy UK.

Training for pharmacists will take place in Village Hotel and Leisure Club, Cardiff on Sunday 25 January 2009. Pharmacists seeking more information should contact Pauline Napier on 01322 611 650 or email pauline@allergyuk.org.
