The NPA (National Pharmacy Association) has given the community pharmacy perspective on Direct to Pharmacy models at a Leadership Forum attended by senior professionals from supply chain services providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Hosted by Analytiqa, the topic for the event was Direct to Pharmacy - the market of the future?
NPA Head of Business Development, Raj Nutan, gave a presentation to the delegates on the key issues surrounding the future for medicines supply and the impact of direct to pharmacy schemes in the UK - from the perspective of community pharmacy. He spoke about the traditional method of supply and community pharmacies' requirements, objectives and concerns for the future, asking members of the forum to consider how the supply chain could continue to support community pharmacy's needs.
Raj commented:
"This was a singular opportunity to convey many of our members' concerns about direct to pharmacy schemes to senior representatives from organisations involved in medicines supply at a strategic level."
Mark O'Bornick, Director of Research & Analysis at Analytiqa, noted:
"Across the pharmaceutical supply chain, from manufacturers and wholesalers, to technology providers and logistics companies, it is apparent that there is no 'joined up thinking' when it comes to Direct To Pharmacy in the UK. As the pharmaceutical supply chain evolves and consolidates, it is clear that a leading industry voice, such as the NPA, must be used to define its true business model, collating expertise, so that the sector can improve efficiencies and better manage inventory - ultimately for the benefit of the end customer."
