Eight Wiley Authors Win 2008 Nobel Prizes - Dr. Paul Krugman Awarded Prize In Economics

John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), announced today that eight Nobel laureates in Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics are Wiley authors.

Dr. Paul Krugman, of the U.S., another Wiley author, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his analysis of trade patterns and location of economic activity. Dr. Krugman is the author of The Self Organizing Economist, published by Wiley-Blackwell in 1996, and a contributor to several Wiley-Blackwell journals. Dr. Krugman joins seven other Wiley authors who were named as 2008 Nobel laureates.

In Chemistry, Dr. Osamu Shimomura, Dr. Martin Chalfie, and Dr. Roger Y. Tsien, all of the U.S., were awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering green fluorescent protein and related marine photoproteins, and for developing them into highly useful tools for chemical, biological, and medical analysis. The original discovery of green fluorescent protein was reported by Osamu Shimomura in 1962 in Wiley's Journal of Cellular and Comparative Physiology.

Dr. Yoichiro Nambu, of the U.S., was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics. Dr. Nambu has been a contributor to Wiley journals.

Dr. Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Dr. Luc Montagnier, of France, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the human immunodeficiency virus. Both contributed various articles to Wiley-Blackwell journals and were involved in numerous book projects.

Dr. Harald zur Hausen, of Germany, received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his studies of human papilloma viruses causing cervical cancer. The Nobel Prize winner is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cancer, and has contributed several articles to Wiley-Blackwell journals. Dr. zur Hausen is also the author of Infections Causing Human Cancer, published by Wiley-VCH in 2006.

Capecchi, Sir Martin Evans, Dr. Albert Fert, Dr. Peter Grünberg, Leonid Hurwicz, Dr. Erik Maskin, Dr. Roger Myerson, and Dr. Oliver Smithies.
